The call of the open sea

There are landscapes that immediately make you want to go and see what lies beyond. Here, brown lands and light-colored rocks stand out against stretches of water, while an immense sky draws the gaze toward a distant place that one can sense without ever truly being able to reach it.

The Call of the Open Sea was born from this fascination I feel for vast spaces and wild lands. These landscapes, where the eye can wander without encountering any boundaries, awaken in me a profound sense of freedom, as well as an almost irrepressible urge to leave, to discover what lies beyond.

This painting speaks of that call to the elsewhere that certain landscapes stir within us. It evokes the desire to step away from what we know for a moment, to let the gaze travel, and to reconnect with that need for a horizon, for space and for freedom.
