Description
Description
In this landscape almost reduced to its essentials, the horizon separates two immensities. Depending on the direction from which one views the work, perception transforms: sea, sky, ice, and night seem to take turns filling the space, to the point of blurring our bearings.
The silence as far as the eye can see reminds me particularly of the landscapes of the Arctic night. In the distance, a few tiny human presences seem lost in this vast expanse. Faced with an environment that seems so harsh to us, I am fascinated by the ability of people to adapt, to live, and to build their daily lives in conditions so far removed from our own.
This painting reminds me of the extent to which our planet is home to radically different landscapes, climates, and ways of life. What would seem almost uninhabitable to us can be, for others, a familiar territory, a daily routine, a home. And beyond this horizon line, there still stretch so many worlds about which we know almost nothing.
