Description
In this painting, the sea and sky seem bathed in the same light. Shades of blue echo one another on both sides of the horizon, while the movements of texture on the water’s surface evoke a sea that is still shifting, crossed by currents and reflections.
Shuko, which means “setting sail” in Japanese, evokes for me that moment when you leave dry land and the landscape gradually opens up before you. The horizon then becomes a point toward which to move, without knowing exactly what you will discover beyond it.
I love this idea of departure, not as an escape, but as the possibility of opening oneself to the unknown, changing perspective, and letting oneself be carried toward a place yet to be discovered.
