Horizon

Facing the sea or the ocean, the landscape sometimes seems to boil down to a simple horizontal line. An almost perfect line, which separates the sky from the water and gives the strange impression that everything becomes flat as the gaze reaches into the distance.

And yet, behind this apparent simplicity lies an immense world. Behind this line, anything is possible. The ocean can continue for thousands of kilometers, other shores can appear, islands, lands, entire continents that one can still only imagine.

This is undoubtedly what fascinates me so much about these marine horizons and explains why they appear so often in my photographs as well as my paintings. The gaze is stopped by nothing. It can cross this line, continue on its way, and invent what lies beyond.

The horizon then becomes less of a boundary than an opening: a space where the gaze escapes and where the imagination can go as far as it wishes.
